I am a New User and Need to Set up my Directory ID
and Password
In your browser, type in the link: https://www.oit.umd.edu/new/.
Once you click on the Start here link the program
will
take you to the Identity Verification page where you will walk
through
the process to identify yourself, set up your Directory ID Password, set
up three Security Questions with answers, and finally walk through the
process of accepting your Directory ID. If you have any questions while
moving through these pages, please call the Offfice of Information Technology (OIT)
Help Desk, or walk in (with identification).
Note: Do not hit the back key on the browser
window while you work through the Directory ID pages.
To begin your verification, type in the following pieces of information
into the system:
- Type in The Last Five Digits of Your SSN into this
field
- Use the down arrows to select Your Date of Birth
- Type in Your Last Name
- Type in The Last Five Digits of Your Phone Number (Any phone
number on file with the University)
- Click the Submit button
This will pass you through to the Password Setup page.
- Type in the password you wish to use in the New
Password field
- Type in the password you wish to use again in the Re-enter
New Password field.
- Click the
 button
Once you have correctly set up the Directory ID Password, you will see an
invitation to set up your
security questions (if the Security Questions have already been
set-up you will see an invitation to change them).
You must answer the Password
Security
Questions
for added security to your account. Once you have answered the questions
and clicked the Update button, you will see the web page
Your Directory Password Security Questions have been
set. It is at this point you will see your current Directory ID
and the link which will ask you to accept or select your
Directory
ID.
Click on the link accept or
select your Directory ID. Answer questions and follow the links
to accept or change your Directory ID.
