Installing, Configuring, and Using PuTTY+Kerberos

PuTTY is a free implementation of SSH for Win32 and Unix platforms. It allows you to login from your local workstation to remote systems. The instructions below explain how to download and install PuTTY with built-in Kerberos support. This document assumes you have already installed the Kerberos for Windows (KfW) package.

1. Download PuTTY+Kerberos from: http://sweb.cz/v_t_m/putty/PuTTY-0.58-GSSAPI-2005-07-24.zip.
   
   
2. Launch putty and click on the Auth configuration category.
   • Make sure that the Attempt Kerberos 5 GSSAPI/SSPI auth (SSH2) checkbox is checked.
   • Make sure that the Allow Kerberos 5 ticket forwarding in GSSAPI/SSPI checkbox is checked.

   

3. Save your configuration changes by doing the following:
   • Click on the Session configuration category.
   • Click on the Default Settings session.
   • Click on the Save button.

   

1. Launch putty and:
   • enter the host you wish to connect to in the Host Name (or IP address) field.
   • push the Open button.

   

2. Enter your Directory ID when prompted for who to login as.
