When I print from an application nothing
happens?
Printing in Windows 95 in the WAM labs is a two-step process.
-
The application you print from actually writes what you are
printing to a file, "xxxx.ps", where xxxx is the name of the
lab you are in (e.g. pg2.ps). That is the first step of the
printing process.
-
The second step is automatically done by a
background program called "BkWnpp.exe". This program senses
when you are printing something and brings up the "Send File
to Printer" window. This is the program that actually allows
you to print in a WAM lab. It should be running at all times.
Occasionally, people close applications using the Task
Manager (by typing Crtl-Alt-Delete) and close this program.
Without the program running, you cannot print to a WAM lab
printer. The application you are trying to print from will go
through the process of printing, but the "Send File to
Printer" window will not come up and your file will not be
sent to the printer.
Solution
The solution to this problem is very simple. Go to the
Start menu. In the Startup sub-menu under
Programs
menu, there is a shortcut called Background Pay-4-Print
(Start->Programs->Startup->Background Pay-4-Print).
Run this application. That will allow you to print again.
