New State Requirements For Passwords
State of Maryland Information Technology (IT) security and audit requirements mandate that passwords used to
protect critical data (such as personal information about students and
payroll records) must expire every 180 days. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) has been mandated to implement
these requirements for the University Directory because it is used to
access such information.
In fulfillment of this obligation, all Directory passwords activated
before November 8, 2006 have been allowed to expire. If your Directory password
expired and has not been reset, you will receive a password error
when you attempt to login to services which use the directory for
authentication. Such systems include: Administration Resources Enterprise Services (ARES), Electronic Forms (ELF),
Testudo, Timesheets,
Payroll & Human Resources (PHR), Mail@UMD e-mail system, Enhanced Learning for Maryland Students (ELMS) / Blackboard, and
others.
If your Directory password has expired, you may set a new one through
http://www.oit.umd.edu/password/ or call the
OIT Help Desk for assistance.
New Directory passwords will be usable for 180 days.
