Setting Print Queue Access

Permissions to print are no longer set by adding users to an access list group.

Note: Some users may still want to use "printadmin" which was discontinued June 1. If so, continue to add the users to the Access Control List (ACL) as well as by following these instructions:

  • Permissions are set by editing files located in /afs/wam.umd.edu/common/access/print. There is a dot before the wam.umd.edu. In order to be able to do this, you need a Workstation at Maryland (WAM) account. Any user you wish to grant access will also need a WAM account.

  • Changes will eventually be processed automatically. In the meantime, send e-mail to LPCR Admins after you make changes.

  • Instead of manually editing the file, you can login to your WAM account and run a script designed for this. The script is as follows: /afs/wam/software/lpcr/scripts/queue_change . You can either make an alias for this so that you do not have to type in the full path, or you can add the directory to your path.

  • Add an alias to your .aliases file in your WAM account:

  neobank:~% echo 'alias queue_change /afs/wam/software/lpcr/scripts/queue_change' | cat >> .aliases

Examples: Manually adding a New User to the Print Queue
