What does WAM offer?
Information about the WAM system
The OIT WAM system is a UNIX system that gives shell accounts to students, faculty, and staff at the University of
Maryland, College Park. A WAM account can be used access to many different services, including: e-mail, file storage,
computer labs, and the Internet. Please click here for information on how to get a WAM
account.
E-mail
With your WAM UNIX account, you have free access to e-mail.
You can read, send, receive, and store messages with this account. There are
several ways to log in to your e-mail account. You can install an e-mail client
on your computer, use OIT web mail, or use a UNIX terminal window. For more

Home Space
Each WAM UNIX account has 100 megabytes of storage space for
your files. You can use this space to store e-mail and electronic files, including web pages. For more information about

Web Page Hosting
A WAM account provides space to host personal web pages. Please see our page on Publishing Web

Access to OIT WAM Labs and Other Computer Labs
WAM accounts allow you to log in to most open computer labs
at the University. For more information about labs on the WAM system, see

Access to USENET News
WAM accounts give you access to the news systems at the
