UNIX: How To Transfer Files Between Systems

You can use one of the Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) packages available, If you are on a direct Internet connection.

In standard Unix systems, you can use 'sftp' directly; for information on this, type:

    man sftp

There is also a handout available in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) Help Desk entitled Transferring Files With SFTP and it will explain how to use SFTP.

On Windows and Mac systems, there are platform-specific applications that do this same function. On Windows, you would use F-Secure (available in the Workstation at Maryland (WAM) labs). On the Macintosh, you would use Fetch. The above-mentioned sftp handout covers Fetch.
