Configurations Of Browsers On WAM And Glue

With the advent of Unix Web browsers running directly on WAM and on Windows NT with direct access to WAM filespace, the file use of these browsers has become an issue. Here is the summary of how they will use your account:

Browser/Platform Puts config files in... Puts cache files in...
Firefox on WAM ~/.mozilla ~/.mozilla/firefox/'random#'.default/cache
Int.Explorer on WAM ~/.microsoft
(about 1 meg)
~/.microsoft/TempInternetFiles
Firefox on Win2000 ~/.mozilla ~/.mozilla/firefox/'random#'.default/cache
if you've created a profile

~/.ntprofile
(see note below)

Note on WinNT -- As configured in the initial Windows NT setup in the PG2 WAM Lab, Netscape initially put cache files in the .ntprofile directory. This was changed at the beginning of February 1998. If you, however, used the NT machines in that initial period, you may have left-over cache files in .ntprofile.
