Windows Client Install

  1. Download and install the latest client and system files from http://www.backups.umd.edu/software/. There is no need to reboot.
  2. Start the Tivoli Storage Manager "Backup-Archive GUI" from the start menu. The first time this is run, the setup wizard should appear. If it doesn't, it can be selected from the "Utilities" menu. This typical setup will work for most clients. Custom install options will be covered in the Advanced Topics section.
  3. After Each of the following steps, click Next:
    1. Select the options "Help me configure the TSM Backup Archive Client" and "Help me configure the TSM Client Scheduler"
    2. Create a new options file
    3. The node name will be the same as the machine name you specified in the request on the Node Registration Form
    4. The client will talk over TCP/IP
    5. The server address is "tivoli.umd.edu" The port number is "1500"
    6. The domain list and include/exclude lists should be left as is for a normal client
    7. Click Finish to begin setting up the TSM Scheduler
    8. At this point, the client will ask for a password. Enter the password that was given to you. If you have lost your password, it cannot be recovered. You will need to request a password change.
    9. Select "Install a new or additional scheduler"
    10. Enter a name for the service as "TSM Scheduler". Select "Local Machine" and check the box next to "Use the Client Acceptor Daemon to manage the scheduler"
    11. Give the TSM acceptor name as: "TSM Client Acceptor Daemon"
    12. Use the default option file displayed (C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\baclient\dsm.opt)
    13. Verify the node name is correct. Enter the password that was given to you.
    14. The system account should be fine for use by the scheduler. Make sure the radio button for "Automatically when Windows boots" is selected.
    15. The default log files should be used. They reside in "C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\baclient\"
