Microsoft Outlook 2007 can be configured to access the university
Directory service, allowing you to search for
contact information for University of Maryland, College Park faculty and
staff.
- In the Outlook menu bar, click on Tools and
then Account Setting.
- In the window that appears, choose the Address Books
tab.
- Click New.
- In the next window, choose Internet Directory Service
(LDAP) and then click on the Next button.
- In the next window, enter directory.umd.edu
in the Server name box.
- Click the More Settings button.
- A window with the title Microsoft LDAP
Directory will appear. Click on the Search
tab. In the Search base box, type in the Custom field
dc=umd,dc=edu.
- Click on the OK button.
- Close Outlook.

When you restart Outlook, choose Tools from the
menu bar, then choose Address Book.
- From the dropdown menu under Address Book, select directory.umd.edu.
- In the search window that appears, put in
name of the person you want to search for.
- For more options, select the Advanced Find link.
- The results will be listed in the Address Book
window. Double-clicking on one of the names in the list will bring up
more detailed information about the person, and will present you with the
option of adding that person to your contacts.
