Things that should be done prior to implementing Corporate Sync:
-
Set Directory (LDAP) password via directory.umd.edu.
-
Log into Corporate Time at least once, and set up a named
address book. (You don't need to have the calendaring
client software installed on your computer in order to
install and use the Palm synchronization software.)
-
Hot sync the Palm device.
-
(Recommended) Delete repeating meetings
on the Palm device after jotting them down so that they can
be re-entered after Corporate Sync has been implemented.
(If you have set up repeating meetings on your Palm organizer,
they will be copied over onto CorporateTime as a series of
individual meetings. If you set up repeating meetings in
CorporateTime, they will be shown on the Palm as a series
of individual meetings. However, a proper link will be
maintained between the meetings, so if they are deleted in
one place, they will also be deleted in the other.) The
advantage of doing this is that it ensures that the repeating
meetings show up as repeating meetings in CorporateTime, rather
than as a series of individual meetings.
-
Make sure that all address book entries in the Palm device
have something in the "last name" field.
-
The Address Book synchronization feature of CorporateSync does
not preserve the categories you may have in your Palm device.
CorporateSync may also combine some Palm address book entries.
If you already have data in your Palm address book, you may wish
to do a custom install and install only the Calendar and ToDo
components of CorporateSync, continuing to use the Palm software
to synchronize the address book. This issue only applies if you
already have data in your Palm address book.
Steps in implementing Corporate Sync:
-
Install Corporate Sync on the desktop machine (PC or Mac). There are
detailed instructions for both
Windows machines and
Macintosh machines.
-
The CorporateSync conduits will replace the Palm Desktop conduits
for Calendar, ToDo, and Address Book.
-
Sync the Palm device to install the Palm side of Corporate Sync (CS Setup).
-
Set up the User name, password, Address book name, and server name in
the CS Setup app on the Palm device. By default, the calendar is
synchronized from one week in the past to one month in the future.
This preference can be changed using the CS Setup application on the
Palm organizer.
-
Sync the Palm device again to synchronize the Corporate Time calendar,
address book, and task list.
-
Re-enter repeating meetings, then sync the Palm device again.
-
Events marked as personal in CorporateTime will be
marked private on the Palm organizer. Therefore, if
you have set your Palm security preferences to hide your private
records, you will not see those entries.
