Configuring Microsoft Entourage 2008 For Mail@umd

To configure Microsoft Entourage 2008 for the Mail@umd system:

  1. Click the Entourage icon to launch the program.

  2. Once Entourage has launched, select Tools from the top toolbar and click on Accounts.

  3. When the Accounts window appears, click on the New icon and select Mail from the drop-down menu.

  4. A New Account window will appear. At the Account type drop-down menu, select either IMAP or POP. IMAP is strongly recommended. Click the OK button.

  5. The Edit Account window will appear.

  6. In the Account name field, type a name that you will use to identify the account. This can be helpful if you have several accounts in Entourage and need to differentiate between them. For example, a name like Mail@UMD will be sufficient.
  7. In the Name field, type your name, as you would like people to see it when they receive mail from you.
  8. Type your e-mail address in the Email Address field. If your University Directory ID is jdoe, your e-mail address would be jdoe@umd.edu (as in the example shown below).
  9. Type your e-mail account user name in the field labeled Account ID In this example, if your e-mail address is jdoe@umd.edu, your user name will be jdoe.
  10. In the IMAP server field, type mail.umd.edu
  11. If you would like Entourage to remember your password so you do not have to enter it each time you check your mail, enter it in the Password box, and check Save password in my MAC OS Keychain box.
  12. In the SMTP server field, type mail.umd.edu .

  13. Click the button that says Click here for advanced receiving options.
  14. In the small window that appears, check the box that says This IMAP service requires a secure connection (SSL). Close the small box.

  15. Click the button that says Click here for advanced sending options.
  16. In the small window that appears, check the box that says SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL) and check the box that says SMTP server requires authentication. Select Use same settings as receiving mail server. Close the small box. Click the OK button.

  17. The Accounts window will appear again. Click the red circle in the upper left hand corner to close the window.

  18. Your account is now configured and will appear in the Entourage window.
