Configuring Entourage 2008 To Access The University Directory

You can configure Entourage 2008 to use the University Directory service to find a faculty/staff member of the university the correct e-mail address when you are composing an e-mail message. To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Launch Entourage 2008.
  2. Click on Tools on the menu bar.
  3. Choose Accounts.

  4. Click on the Directory Service tab in the Accounts window

  5. Click the New button and an Edit Account window will appear.
  6. Click on the Account Settings tab.
  7. Type in the following information:
    • Account Name: UM Directory
    • LDAP server: directory.umd.edu

  8. Click on the Options tab.
  9. Type in the following information:
    • Search base: dc=umd,dc=edu

  10. Click the OK button.
  11. Click the red button in the upper left corner to close the Accounts window. Entourage is now set up to use the Directory service.

To begin using the service, start a new e-mail message. Type in the full name of the University person you are searching for in the To: field. Start composing your message. After a few moments, the UM Directory will answer Entourage's request for information about that person, and the name you entered will be replaced by the name and e-mail address of that person.
