The following is a list of the usual services that POP mail programs
help you to access and the addresses of the servers that provide these services on
each of the main campus systems.
POP (Post Office Protocol) -
Receiving incoming mail.
Mail@UMD account, use mail.umd.edu
WAM account, use pop.wam.umd.edu
Glue account, use pop.glue.umd.edu
Deans account, use pop.deans.umd.edu
SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) -
Sending outgoing mail.
PLEASE NOTE: If you use an Internet service provider
(ISP) other than the University of Maryland for Internet access, you
must use your ISP's SMTP server (contact your Internet Service Provider
for more information on this) instead of one of the servers listed below.

NNTP (Network News Transfer Protocol) -
Accessing Usenet News personal-interest discussion
newsgroups -- not directly related to mail, but many mail
programs have a newsreader feature for which this is
needed.
