There are few things more frustrating than a severe system crash after
which booting from the hard disk is no longer possible. This is especially
true if you have not prepared a floppy disk from which to boot the system.
To save yourself from this headache:

You should always have startup disks made in Win 95/98/NT in a safe
place, in case you can't boot your PC from the hard drive.

You should have the emergency recovery CD that most new PCs ship with
handy. It is used to restore the original configuration and software
that the PC shipped with.

For a Macintosh computer, you should have the OS CD. If your computer
fails to boot from the hard drive, you can boot off of the OS CD by
holding down the "C" key as you start the machine.
Anti-Virus programs like Norton AntiVirus, and McAfee Virus Scan enable
you to make a boot disk that will boot your system and clean viruses that
have infected the boot sector. Check the help section in your anti-virus
program for instructions on creating a boot disk.
