Take Notes of Significant Changes to Your Computer

Take careful notes of any significant changes you make to your computer

Before you make any changes to system, we recommend that you write down or somehow make note of what you are changing and what the setting was originally. That way, if the change you make causes a problem or unexpected results, you can return your system to it's previous state.

We have created a list of configurations and settings on your computer that we recommend that you document and keep track of on your Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, and Windows 2000 or Macintosh.

Another method for returning your computer to a previous state (prior to you or a program making changes to the machine) is to purchase rollback software, software designed to allow you to "turn back time" on your machine. Windows XP and later have a System Restore capability built in, however, there are also commercial packages available.
