Changing Stored E-mail Passwords

If you use the Mail@umd system to read e-mail, you will have to update your e-mail program's stored password setting every time you change your Directory password.

Thunderbird 2.x

To change your stored password in Thunderbird 2.x on a Windows PC:

  1. Launch the Thunderbird application
  2. Select the Tools menu then Options
  3. Click the Privacy icon on the Options window
  4. Click the Passwords tab
  5. Click the Edit Saved Passwords button
  6. Select imap://yourusername@mail.umd.edu on the Password Manager window
  7. Click the Remove button
  8. Select smtp://yourusername@mail.umd.edu
  9. Click the Remove button
  10. Click the Close button
  11. Click the OK button to close the Options window and then quit Thunderbird
  12. Launch Thunderbird and you should then be prompted to type in your new password
  13. Select Use Password Manager to remember this password to save this new password.

SeaMonkey 1.1.x

To change your stored password in SeaMonkey 1.1.x on a Windows PC:

  1. Launch the SeaMonkey application
  2. Select the Tools menu and choose Password Manager from list
  3. Choose Manage Stored Passwords in the pop-up menu to the right
  4. Click the Passwords Saved tab
  5. Select imap://yourusername@mail.umd.edu
  6. Click the Remove button
  7. Select smtp://yourusername@mail.umd.edu
  8. Click the Remove button
  9. Click the Close button and quit SeaMonkey
  10. Launch SeaMonkey again and then type in your new password when you send or receive mail
  11. Select Use Password Manager to remember this password to save this new password

Outlook 2003

To change your stored password in Outlook 2003 on a Windows PC:

  1. Launch the Outlook 2003 application
  2. Select the Tools menu then E-mail Accounts
  3. Select View or change existing e-mails accounts then click the Next button
  4. Highlight your account name and click the Change... button on the E-mail Accounts window
  5. In the Password: field, type in your new password
  6. Click the More Settings... button
  7. Select the Outgoing Server tab
  8. Click to select Use same settings as my incoming mail server
  9. Click the OK button
  10. Click the Next button, then Finish

Outlook Express 6

To change your stored password in Outlook Express 6 on a Windows PC:

  1. Launch the Outlook Express application
  2. Select the Tools menu and choose Accounts
  3. Click the Mail tab on the Internet Accounts window
  4. Click the Properties button
  5. Click the Servers tab
  6. Type in your new password in the Password: field
  7. Click the Settings button
  8. Click to select Use same settings as my incoming mail server
  9. Click the OK button
  10. Click the Apply button, then OK
  11. Click the Close button

Eudora 6.2.3

To change your stored password in Eudora 6.2.3 on a Windows PC:

  1. Launch the Eudora application
  2. Select the Tools menu and choose Options from the list
  3. Click the Checking Mail icon on the left side of the Options window
  4. Uncheck the Save password option and click the OK button
  5. Quit Eudora
  6. Launch Eudora again
  7. Click the Check Mail icon
  8. Type in your new password and click OK
  9. Select the Tools menu and choose Options from the list
  10. Click the Checking Mail icon on the left side of the Options window
  11. Click OK

Macintosh Platform

OS X Mail 2.x

To change your stored password in Mail 2.x on an OS X Mac:

  1. Launch the Mail application
  2. Select the Mail menu and choose Preferences from the list
  3. Click the Accounts icon in the Preferences window
  4. In the Accounts column the left side of the window, highlight your account and then click the Account Information tab
  5. Type your new Directory password in the Password: field
  6. Click the Server Settings... button
  7. Type your new Directory password in the Password: field
  8. Click OK
  9. Click the red button in the upper left corner to close the preferences window
  10. Click the Save button to save your changes

Thunderbird 2.x

To change your stored password in Thunderbird 2.x on an OS X Mac:

  1. Launch the Thunderbird application
  2. Select the Thunderbird menu and choose Preferences
  3. Click the Privacy icon in the Preferences window
  4. Click the Passwords tab
  5. Click the Edit Saved Passwords button
  6. Select imap://yourusername@mail.umd.edu in the Password Manager window
  7. Click the Remove button
  8. Select smtp://yourusername@mail.umd.edu
  9. Click the Remove button
  10. Click the red button in the upper left corner to close the Password Manager window
  11. Click the red button in the upper left corner to close the preferences window and quit Thunderbird
  12. Launch Thunderbird and type in your new password
  13. Select Use Password Manager to remember this password to save this new password.

SeaMonkey 1.1.x

To change your stored password in SeaMonkey 1.1.x on an OS X Mac:

  1. Launch the SeaMonkey application
  2. Select the Tools menu and choose Password Manager from list.
  3. Choose Manage Stored Passwords in the pop-out menu to the right
  4. Click the Passwords Saved tab
  5. Select imap://yourusername@mail.umd.edu
  6. Click the Remove button
  7. Select smtp://yourusername@mail.umd.edu
  8. Click the Remove button
  9. Click the Close button and quit SeaMonkey
  10. Launch SeaMonkey and type in your new password
  11. Select Use Password Manager to remember this password to save this new password.

Entourage 2004

To change your stored password in Entourage 2004 on an OS X Mac:

  1. Launch the Entourage application
  2. Select the Tools menu and choose Accounts from the list
  3. Click the Mail tab from the Accounts window
  4. Highlight your account and then click the Edit button
  5. Type your new Directory password in the Password: field
  6. Click the Click here for advanced sending options button
  7. Information about your smtp settings will appear. Make sure the radio button next to Use same settings as receiving mail server is selected.
  8. Click the box in the upper left corner to close the window
  9. Click OK

Eudora 6.2.3

To change your stored password in Eudora 6.2.3 on an OS X Mac:

  1. Launch the Eudora application
  2. Select the Special menu and choose Settings from the list
  3. In the column the left side of the Settings window, click the Checking Mail icon
  4. Uncheck the Save password option and click OK
  5. Quit Eudora
  6. Launch Eudora again
  7. Click the Check Mail icon. You will be prompted to type in your new password. Type your password and click OK.
  8. Select the Special menu and choose Settings from the list
  9. In the column the left side of the Settings window, click the Checking Mail icon
  10. Recheck the Save password option and click OK
