Strong passwords are difficult to guess or crack, but they can also be
hard to create. Mac OS X Tiger has a feature, Password Assistant,
that helps you create secure passwords. You can use it whenever you
create a new user account or change the password for an existing account.
To use it:
Double-click the System Preferences icon. System
Preferences is located
in the Applications folder on your hard drive.

The System Preferences window will open.

Click once on the Accounts icon.
The Accounts window will open and a list of accounts on the
system
will appear.

To make changes, you may need to click once on the lock in the
lower left corner and enter your Admin username and password.

The Accounts window will reappear. Select the account whose
password you wish to change and click the
Change Password... button.

The password changing window will appear. Type your current
password in the Old Password: field and click the key button.

The Password Assistant will appear. Using the Type:
drop-down menu, the assistant will allow you to either manually enter a
password or it will generate one for you.
If you choose an automatically generated password, the new password
will populate the New Password: field. Type the new password again
in the Verify: field and click Change Password.

If you choose to manually create a password, use the Length
bar to decide how long to make your password. Begin typing your new
password in the Suggestion: field. The quality of the password
will be measured. The new password will populate the New
Password: field. Type the new password again in the Verify:
field and click Change Password.

Once you have clicked the Change Password button, your new
stronger
password is set.
