Configuring Web Browsers for Kerberos Authentication

Note: WAM/Glue UNIX/Linux machines already have their firefox installations properly configured for Kerberos authentication, no further configuration is necessary.

Configuring Firefox

  1. Make sure that you have Kerberos properly configured on your computer. See the Kerberos page for more information on installing and configuring Kerberos.

  2. Enter about:config in the URL bar.
  3. In the filter text box type in network.negotiate to narrow the displayed options.
  4. Change network.negotiate-auth.delegation-uris to umd.edu.
  5. Change network.negotiate-auth.trusted-uris to umd.edu.

    If you are running Windows, you also need to enter sspi into the filter text box and change the network.auth.use-sspi option to false (Can be done by double-clicking the option).

Configuring Internet Explorer

Note: Internet Explorer does not currently support Kerberos authentication in our environment. If you would like to use Kerberos authentication for web pages, please try another browser.


Configuring Opera

Note: Opera does not currently support Kerberos authentication. If you would like to use Kerberos authentication for web pages, please try another browser.


Configuring Safari

Note: Safari supports Kerberos authentication without any additional configuration.
