Click here for information about disabling the firewall.
A firewall is a security measure that
creates a protective boundary (or wall) between a computer
and the Internet in order to protect the computer from
unauthorized access.
Windows XP includes Internet Connection Firewall software
that can be used to restrict the connections made from the
Internet to your computer. Here are the steps for enabling
this firewall:
Click Start, then
Control Panel

Locate Network Connections and
double-click the icon to open it.

- The Network Connections window will open,
will list all of the network connections available.
- Select the
network connection that you want to enable the firewall for, i.e.
the network connection you use the most.
- Right-click on the icon
and select Properties
in the menu that will pop up.

- In the Local Area Connection Properties window select
the Advanced tab, then click the Settings button.

- The Windows Firewall window appears showing the General tab
- Click the ON (recommended) button

- Click OK
